Potholes And Alloys

Featured Replies

I hit a pretty big pothole tonight about 50mph and a bit worried about buckled alloys/ broken suspension! Can anyone ease my worrying on this, what does a buckled alloy feel like? Noticeable vibration in the steering wheel? Would be grateful If someone could advise on this

Jack up car an spin wheel by hand u will see if buckled

Jack up the corner of the car and rotate the wheel. You will be able to see any buckling as a wobble unless it is very slight. Apart from that keep an eye out on the tyre treads as they wear, a buckled wheel will have an adverse affect on wear and will show up afer a time as an uneven wear pattern around the outside, again depending on the amount of distortion. If you feel vibration through the steering wheel then that could be one of the front wheels needs balancing, or maybe a bulging tyre, or even a bent driveshaft. It may be worth taking the car to a local garage and just get them to give the suspension and steering a once over if you find nothing but are still unhappy.

What they've said ^

Also, check your tyre. I have reinforced tyres on my car and I've managed to burst two this way pretty badly... beading showing the whole way around the inside

If there is damage you can claim back on the council for not keeping the roads in good condition despite paying your taxes :) my mate got a new wheel and tyre from a buckled wheel all paid for by him then council paid him back

Cheers for the advice :)

Harry93 - hopefully I won't have to make a claim, but good to know you can! Cheers
