Fiesta Mk5 - Need To Replace Cigarette Lighter

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone please help? The cigarette lighter in my MK5 Fiesta has stopped working. Have checked the fuses, it's not that. Have got a replacement lighter and not sure how to fit it.

Don't particularly want to spend a fortune taking it to a garage/auto-electrician so if anyone can help, that would be great.

Thanks!
Lucy

you should be able to just prize out the cigarette lighter I believe and then just swap it out.

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry to be dim, but is there any particular knack to this? My dad had a go (he's the practical one in this house) and he said it wouldn't budge and he was worried about breaking the centre console if he put more pressure on.

Theres two plastic lugs holding the socket into it's sleeve.

You have to either push in the lugs (a pain) or convince the old one to come out with a bit of judicious hammer tapping.

Gutted - just managed to replace the lighter... and it's still not working. Any other ideas what could be wrong?

check the fuse if you havent already (check them all!) alternatively check the wiring...

Checked the fuse behind the glovebox, and it was fine. Where would I find the other fuse box? When we had the centre console off we checked the wiring. Ugh, may have to bite the bullet and let someone look at it.

Thanks,

Lucy

I can't remember the number without going back and having a look, but I used the key on the back of the glove box. Checked it by replacing it.

I had the same issue, fuse looked fine, then I swapped the fuse for a new one and it worked, main problem now is the fuses keep blowing

Have you tried replacing the socket too? It could just be faulty and creating a short causing the fuse to blow.

Not tried that yet, my next port of call, but it's my mums car, and it's hard to do anything on it.

Think it might just be one of those 1 in a million cars that just doesn't work properly, the central locking mechanism from key doesn't work and is spotty from using the key, aircon has never worked either.

She bought it new which is the worst part but she never believed me when I said her aircon didn't work, as she had never had it before, so getting coolish air, she assumed it worked.

Congratulations !!! 🎉

Sorry I didn't realise there's time limit to replying.

Haven't logged in for a while, or thought about trying to fix it again

No time limit, take as long as you want.

I expect that @WES180 probably gave up expecting a reply to his suggestion.

Or maybe they were like me a got bored of being told there's a reply to their question, only to have a pointless but "funny" comment like yours added, that's why I turned off be told about all "funny" comments.
