Finding Information And The Registration For A Car

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We have a VIN Number for a car, which the original engine is now sitting in our car.

When we bought it from the garage, we had no idea that the replacement engine for the car was from what is probably a French Ford Focus.

DVLA have no record of the VIN, neither do Ford UK head office in Essex. It is showing on a Ford system which covers all of Europe which is available from Ford Dealers, but it contains very little information. Basic car spec, date of manufacture.

We have been told that if we can get the car registration we can access another system. But we also need to try to find out what happened to the car. and if it was scrapped, any recorded scrap-age mileage.

The garage who fitted the engine will not share any information at all. They didn't even tell us that when the sold the car, and gave us the invoice with the OLD Engine Number on it, that the Log Book hadn't been changed.

Apparently this doesn't matter to anyone including the DVLA. Turns out the garage can do what they want. And they told us it had done 70k, then changed it to 75k in writing. But they don't have to prove this.

But garages here won't touch the car to repair the cylinder head.

Any help on how to track down a French registered car would be excellent. We know that when it was sold, the information is in French.

Thank you

Stoney871

so much for that information.

It has brought up exactly what I need. I have been able to find the car registration and it appears to have been registered in jersey which explains why it was showing in French.

I was told there is also another system Ford use for gaining information on a car. Do you happen to know what that is

Thanks again

helen

There are various systems, Ford eCat, or microcat, these show parts and bulletins available for the car?

Otherwise, that is the only real publically accessible system...
