12 Year Rust Garuntee?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone I am a new poster I have looked on the internet quite a bit with mixed ansewrs to my questions, I just wondered if anyone had had this problem or come accross it in some way and managed to get there car fixed.

Some stuff I found suggested you had to have all your stamps in order for them to honour this warranty, whilst others didnt seem to have to.

Basically I have rust under both of my wing mirrors on the car door and a small amount on the bonnet.

I own a Ford Focus 2002 and the 12 years will be up in the next few months.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

12 year rust guarantee? are you sure your reading that right?

I think it is but you have to prove it was caused by a paint defect etc and not in the case of the bonnet, stone chips.

Check how many years it is because I thought it was 8.

I have actually had to claim on the rust guarantee on my ST believe it or not but the claim was successful and I have had the work done.

In your service record, you need to have had the 'Ford Paint/bodywork Check' section stamped every 2 years I think it was by a Ford dealer. Then as RIchard said it has to have happened by a paint defect not a stone chip or so on. IIRC the MK1 Focus can be prone to rusting under the mirrors so this may be covered providing it is under warranty still and you have the relevant stamps.

Also, I would look into it ASAP as it is quite a drawn out process as the dealer will have to get the claim approved by Ford which takes time. As you can imagine, they're not exactly in a hurry!

Thanks for responses everyone.

Its definitely 12 but I dont have the stamps, ive seen on old posts on internet that people have manged to get it without stamps? Does anyone know if this is possible?

I rang one ford dealer they told me to take in and see what the body shop says. I imagine they will palm me away as dont have stamps I take it theres no proven way to ensure they ll do it?

Its definitely 12 but I dont have the stamps

I don't see what that's got to do with it. They don't repair bodywork on a routine service, so whether it's been serviced or not is neither here nor there.

I had my Focus saloon to them when it was 6 years old, due to rust on the bootlid around the chrome strip. They wouldn't do anything because "it's caused by stone chips". On the boot lid? REALLY??! Oh yeah, I forgot, I drive it everywhere in reverse! Complained to Ford directly, and they told me to take it to a main dealer - which I'd already done and got told [as good as] to take a running jump! On further inspection (removing the chrome strip), the rust was extensive, and ruled out Ford's already implausible explanation/cop-out (delete as applicable).

So... good luck with that!

Click on my avatar image and see a link on my profile titled "is your focus rusting"

My focus wasn't even 6 months old

must admit in the handbook it does state 12yr rust protection, but this is when rust corrodes through a panel and not surface rust,,,, as i have a some in the boot recess where the hindges are about the size of a 5 pence piece, thought about taking it back but i dont like rejection you just feel stupid......

well maybe once my injectors are sorted on friday.....

Oh yeah.... just found this from the ford paint warranty.

Your paint is protected by this warranty for twelve (12) years, including rust damage. Exclusions:

1. The browny-red rusty-coloured rust.

2. The paint.

Disclaimer: I may have made this up.

You forgot to mention any corrosive materials.

quoted :- FOCUS/MONDEO

fp (ford protection) 2yrs/60k

cpw(corrosion protection warranty) 12yrs/unlimited millage

cpw:- if any part of the original bodywork of the vehicle has been perforated by rust corrosion, the panel(s) affected will be repaired or replaced by any ford authorised dealer, completly foc reguardless in change of ownership

nb..... "Perforation" means a hole that penertrates throu the bodywork caused by the corrosion from the inside or underside os a result of manufacture..
