Boot Lock Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

Apologies if this has already been asked, I have searched and can't find anything that matches.

My boot has started opening on it's own, (mk 7 2010 zetec s) normally when unlocking the car or starting the engine but sometimes when driving. Locking the car whilst driving stops this from happening. Having looked online it is apparently caused when water leaks in through the rear wiper spindle which causes the lock to short out.

My question is how do you remove the plastic trim on the interior boot lid? There are three screws on the boot lit, one in the middle of the lid inside a bit to put your hand in and two at the edge of the boot which the boot shelf clips onto. After removing those 3 screws the plastic still seems firmly attatched. I am a complete novice when it comes to this so if anyone could provide me an 'idiots' guide it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jasonufc

I have not heard of this but you need to investigate. Is this a faulty switch or a short somewhere. As the car is quite new I am suprised that the motor leaks. You will probably have to prize the plastic off using sometheing like a palette knife there will be quite a few hidden fixings.

Hi, check this link below out, you are right that there are only three screws one in each side assy and a third in the well of the handle. remove these and then pull off the plastic assys. With the side ones start pulling at the top as there is a small alignment tang that hooks around the main cover. They do take a bit of effort, but they will come away, top tip, have a small flat bladed screw driver on standby as once you have liberated it from the boot lid you will then need to ease the assy over the latch housing.

I've just done this today and it took me less than an hour.
