Unsure On Fitting Interior Led Lights.

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a ford fiesta zetec 1.4 on a 58 reg,

I recently bough LED lighting for my interior of my car and was wondering the best way to fit them without shorting any other item in the car I was told to connect the positive to the radio positive and the negative to the metal body work, will this work without short cutting any other items, is their any other way I can do it to prevent short cutting ?

Thanks lee

Hi Lee,

What type of lighting are you adding? if its something like footwell lighting you can run a wire from the interior lighting down to the footwells and use that.

Hi thanks for the reply

It is just an led with a positive wire and a negative wire I have 4 of these I purchased them from halfords it says on the packaging they can be placed anywhere it is just a single led light but I have 4

Thanks lee

OK, but what is the purpose of them?

Are they to be used as footwell lighting? ambient lighting? disco lighting?

Are they going to be wired in with a switch so that you can switch them on and off permenantly? Are you wiring them in so that they are on only for as long as the door is open and the ambient light is on?

We need to know what your aiming for in the long run to advise you correctly, otherwise I could talk you through wiring it up so it never switches off, when what you really want is door open footwell lighting...

The lights are just for show and can be placed anywhere I would prefer then to be on the dashboard and I would like then to turn on when I switch my headlights on

Thanks lee.

Hi Lee,

You would have to bear in mind the implications. First of all, putting them on your dashboard would likely be seen to be illegal and if the lights are brighter than ambient that would likely result in a ticket and stern ticking off from a policeman!

You can wire them in to the light switch though so that you can take power from there and control the lights, alternatively you could wire them into the fuseboard directly with a fusetap and then have a manual rocker or toggle switch so that you can control the lighting.
