Wheel Bearing?

Featured Replies

Hi,

had the rear wheel bearings replaced a week ago, 2 days ago a whirring noise has started from the rear nearside wheel. Before i take back to garage anybody shed any light? The noise only really starts above 35mph, dont think its a sticky caliper as discs not warm.

Hi Murdo,

could be surface rust? does it come back at the end of your journey below the speed or is it only on a new start of the engine?

Howdy, possibly. Noise seems worse inside, opened window to see if noise was bad outside and couldn’t seem to hear anything untoward. Strange. Im ruling out the bearing as noise does not change on cornering as usually happens with a bearing problem.

Back to garage I think!

it might just be as simple as the surface rust, it always sounds worse inside so I wouldnt overthink it.

Keep an eye on it, but dont go paying out for it.

Tyres, I'd swap the wheels front to back & see if the noise moves to the front.

Hi thanks for the replies.

Noise was actually caused by the lower control arm bolt. Bolt had sheared from nut but was still holding control arm.

Replacement on order. Another bit wiser!

Cheers
