Gear Stick Not Returning To Centre

Hi have just brought a 2005 mondeo 2.0 tdci. Just wondered if anyone has had any problems with the gearstick not returning to the centre position, this only happens when i take it out of 5th gear. Ford are telling me i need to buy a complete gear stick at £147+vat, is there an alternative?!

any help/advice appreciated! :)

    Wondering if its the selector linkage, you could always replace from a scrappie....

    remove the gater on the gear shift you may find a broken return spring.

    The spring looks fine, it looks like it gets stuck where the roller on the right is, returns most of the way then gets stuck, have sprayed some lubricant on it but made no difference

    Have managed to get a new gear stick off eBay for £60, its from a mk4 Mondeo st220 , pretty sure its a straight swap for my 2.0 Mondeo TDI?
