Flakey Ford Badges

Featured Replies

Seems to me that all fords I've ever owned and many i've seen have this issue.

The badges on the front and rear seem to 'flake off' over time leaving a silver oval behind.

I've ordered some carbon/chrome DMB gel overlays to protect against this but my question is:

Do I take off the orinigal paint back to the silver oval and then stick them on, or do I put them over the top and hope that the badge they stick too won't flake away over time underneath?

Silly question I know but these gels aren't cheap!

Yes, it is very common. I don't know about the new ones but badges of the 80s and 90s were just clear plastic and painted from behind, I used to scrape the back where I wanted and repaint to change the colour to whatever I wanted.
