Mondeo V6 Automatic - Engine Shuddering/stuttering Between 2000/3000 Revs, Any Ideas???

Hi There, I'm a new member and am hoping for some advice. We have a 53plate Mondeo V6 Ghia Automatic. It seems to stutter/shudder (only way I can describe it) almost like it's not sure what gear it's meant to be in, but as this is the first automatic we've had we're not really sure if it's a prob with the car or how we are driving it? Any advice would be great. Thanks
