Intermittent Starting Issues

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Was wondering if anyone could hazard a guess at the issue im having starting my mondeo 2.0 tdci 2008. Constantly has issues starting, having to turn ignition off and on again up to 4 or 5 times before it will actually start.

Will turn over as if trying to start but wont actually start. Turn ignition off and on and it starts seemingly ok. Sometimes starts first time straight from the key, frequently takes anything from turning ignition off and then on again 2,3,4 times. There does not seem to be ant pattern to it.

It will start straight from cold with no issues and then struggle on a warm engine and sometimes vice versa.

Seems to be slighty worse of car is parked on a hill or slope.

Any help appreciated as dont want to spend hundreds having a garage find out what it is.

Thanks in advance.

you could have fuel starvation.is it diesel or petrol?/

I also have a 2.0 tdci and have had Hot start issues. I was told there has been an ecu update for fixing this issue. Could this be the same problem??

Hi its a 2.0ltr diesel

Bought a diagnostics cable and software but it is not reading anything at all when plugged into the car ( software configured correctly form com port etc )

So still have the original issue and now a diagnostics failure !

Any thoughts at all people?

My focus does the same. I say it's the fuel filter but as it's a lifetime one I'm kinda screwed. I would have preferred a inline one.

Forgot to mention I was also told about a ECU update to fix the issue. But why isn't it free. Software updates are literally a 2 min job. Like a phone update. But cost like £75 which I was quoted .

It's not free because it wasn't done as a recall I assume. If it was a problem everyone had it might of been free....

Has anyone actually got the update to resolve the issue? Would a software update even fix a issue like that. It's cheaper then replacing the fuel pump and filter. Who recommends doing it? And would they care if the cars been modified with the elm config?
