Dump Valve

Featured Replies

Has any body fitted a dump valve to a new st yet

I vaguely remember reading somewhere on here that they aren't good for the fiesta. Something about messing with the pressure recirculation being bad for it, I think.

I might be wrong though.

Just get an induction kit and you will hear the recirc valve

seen clip on you tube of one working. induction kit is £600 compaired with £42 for a dump valve which can be turned on & off instead of replacing a £600 pound filter

+1 a traditional dump valve loses boost pressure so has a negative effect on efficeiency economy

The modern recirculating valve re-cycles boost so is more efficient (both for economy and power) as the boost a total-loss (hissing) dump valve is re-cycled and not lost to atmosphere - it took a lot of clever engineering to achieve that

That leaves hissing dump valves for a certain kind of driver, that is not really interested in performance but just wants to attract attention/ by making lots of noise (usually at low speeds/ round town - mostly annoying padestrians with the pointless hissing sound)- we have a name (or lots of names) for people like that

Just get an electronic one (does not do anything but just makes a noise) - at least you can switch it off when it starts getting on yours/ everyones nerves or you get bored of the annoying noise

Anyway - i thought dump valves were soooo "last year" about as fashionable as furry dice

£600? You can definitely get one for £190, I bought one.

Do they make a noise EVERY time you take your foot off the accelerator even while parking

Seriously the people who spout all the crap about how dv's annoy pedestrians get over it, if things like that annoy you then stab your ear drums out, there are millions of things in the world more annoying than that noise.

OT Baileys make recirculation valves that are a tad louder. Check demon's

Don't do it. You go from looking cool to looking a tit in one day.

That's not very nice, that's like saying if I had a noisy neighbour I should put up with it?

On the subject of that saber fake dump valve, there is a good mighty car mods episode on that, don't know whether anyone's seen it or not

It's not like you'll be sleeping next to it is it? They hardly operate at 150db and ruin your picnic on a summers day.

I take it you've not had them driving round your area sounding like they're filming the new Fast & Furious then?

No I haven't, and I hope the people who slate them haven't and never will fit am aftermarket exhaust on their car, which is far louder than any dump valve. Last time I heard one most engine noises are louder than them also. Unsure why it makes a difference. I take it you dislike motorbikes due to noise levels too, and aircraft? For me I have a 747 go overhead every 3 minutes living near Heathrow, dump valves are hardly loud and go on for what half a second?

Shake your stick at them as they drive past!

Sorry, couldn't resist :-)

You mean like a straight through pipe on a diesel blowing smoke everywhere? Pedestrians love that.

Personally i dont see the point in putting a dump valve on a small hatch or any car in fact. just seems like a waste of time to me and sounds daft. Also ive heard of dump valves creating a loss in pressure, not sure if that is true or not... but yeah it will work but im sure you would find out sooner or later what damage its caused.

I drive a very loud bike, do I can't complain about anyone making annoying noises.

I do however, think that dump valves are annoying to live with everyday. I borrowed a mates fiesta rs turbo for a week and hated it because of the dump valve!

After fitting an induction kit to mine, the standard recirc valve is now quite loud, and very high pitched shreak type noise after full throttle. If you are using full throttle a lot say on a country road it can be annoying after a bit, but day to day you don't drive like that and if you experiment with different levels of throttle (full to part throttle, part throttle to no throttle) you get a variety of different noises, from loud shreek, to chirpty-chirp-pshhh, to a kind of turkey gobble noise where the valve mustn't be able to decide whether to shut or close.

Makes me smile anyway.

This is what it sounds like on an ST, I don't think I'd find that annoying, its not that loud.

What induction kit?

Auto Specialists

Glynn, Is that just induction sound? I'm guessing you don't have a chav valve ;)

Was thinking about an AS induction kit for my 1.0 but not sure now :(

That wasn't my car, I've got a ZS with pumaspeed induction kit, and the video is an ST with auto specialists induction kit. The ST seems to make more of a pshhh with an induction kit whereas the ZS makes more of a chirp/whistle/screech type noise.

Got it Glynn. I've been toying with the idea of getting some sort of induction but don't want the chav valve sound.
