Mondeo Diesel Mpg

Featured Replies

There is a massive difference between the quoted mpg figures for equivalent Mondeos with manual and powershift gearboxes.

To keep it simple I first ignored ECO versions - so taking the 2.0 Duratorq (163PS) engine and the "extra urban" figure is 60.1 for the Powershift and 67.3 for the manual which is more than 10% reduction.

If you move to the ECO versions than you get a 13% reduction in mileage.

The Ford website and Mondeo brochure proclaim that the Powerhift box is more efficient than a conventional automatic - BUT the 2.2 Duratorq TDCi (200PS) unit is quoted as 55.4 for the Durashift Automatic (which I take to be a conventional 6 speed auto) and 56.5 for the manual - this is no reduction at all really and even looking at combined figures you only get a reduction of 7.6%

We all know that mpg figures are fantasy, but taken relatively they should stack up.

Given that the Powershift is a dual - clutch gearbox and should have no slipage as in a normal autobox - can anyone answer the following question???

In 6th gear on the motorway at 70mph are both gearboxes producing the same engine rpm (used to be quoted as MPH per 1000 RPM in top gear)?

NB. I have asked the question in my local dealership and at the Ford Customer Relationship Centre with the usual "chocolate teapot" results.

Any real world mpg figs would also be greatfully received, especially for the powershift.

Thanks for reading - if you got this far.
