Strange Leak?

Recommended Posts

Ive noticed every time it rains heavily or I go to car wash almost every week that when I open the back door behind the driver there's water retention that must sit between the door and the body sill where the chrome plate is?as it runs out when I open it, it's not got inside the car yet but it's weird? As anyone else experienced this???

Not on the Mondeo yet, but on my Exeo and an A4 before, yes!. It happens on just about any channeless doors ( i.e without gutters ). In heavy rain or washing, a small amount of water can get past the top outer seal and run down the front or rear of the door. Assuming the bottom outer seal is good , then it pools on the sill until someone opens the door, and gets wet feet!

That's what weird it's not entering into the car?, and last week we had a mother of a storm and I was concerned it could leak in but nothing ? (thankfully) I just can't work out how/where it's getting in ?, I like things right so things like this bug me :O

Yes, it won't enter the car, it just pools on the door sill between the inner and outer seals. It get's in past the top seal, probably at the corners when it rains hard or you wash it. The water then runs down the front or rear section of the door between the seals. Once it gets to the sill it pools since it cant ( usually ) get past the bottom outer seal. I don't think there's anything you can do about it, in my experience it doesn't cause any problem, apart from possibly wet feet! :)

That behaviour is actually correct as much as not (depending how you look at it.

The water is running down the seal and collecting at the bottom of the door so that it can be drained, rather than pouring into the car.

You could look to replace the seals if they look a bit tired.
