Mk3 Mondeo Parking Sensors

Featured Replies

hey guys. :) ok so ive just bought a 02 plate mondeo and im wanting to fit rear parking sensors. the question is....is there a steel bar behind the bumper thats going to get in the way when i cut the holes for the sensors? anybody fitted aftermarket sensors to a mondeo? cheers guys ;)

Fitted cheapo to my mk 4,the steel crash bar is about 4 inches behind the bumper so you won't have issues hitting it with the drill, installing sensors is easy, I recommend you buy positaps (red) to make life easier still.

Sent from my MY SAGA C2 using Ford OC mobile app

The metal bar is very close to the plastic bumper (half and inch to in inch if I recall, but, If you remove the towing eye cover you will see, part way down the steel bar is an indentation which goes the full width of the car, this is where you can drill through to fit the sensors.

The other option is to fit a reversing cam. no holes to drill and you can get the car to with a few mm of whats behind you ;)

Thanks for correcting me there Steve, I was making an assumption based on all the cars I have seen, sadly the MK3 underside is not one of them! so at least Dave has the correct information now!

Cheers for the reply's guys :) its just a cheepo set i bought online that was fitted to my mk1 galaxy. I haven't looked under the rear bumper to see where the metal bar is. Just didn't wana drill holes to find there wasn't room for them lol. Like the idea of the cam which id thought of already :). Was looking at stereos that had reversing cam inputs so would be a cool mod.ive seen other mondeos on the road which had the sensors pretty low. Guess this is because of the metal bar. Just wondering if they will work as well if they are lower :)

they should work fine no matter where they are on the car, as long as they are not scraping the road, and point outwards (flat) at 90 degrees, then it should be fine.

No worries James, glad to help. I only found out myself recently as I am dong a project to add led strips to the rear bumper as additional tail lights

With regards to the cam Idea David.

You can get one that replaces the numberplate light or one that is part of a number plate surround, so very discrete. Cams are under a tenner, I think the surrounds were selling at about £25. You can get a 3.4" or 4.5" monitor for under a tenner too, or a rear view mirror with screen in it for a bit more.

I have the number plate cam and originally had a monitor that I fitted into the sunvisor, I have since replaced that with the rear view mirror version.

The whole set up, if done yourself, can be as cheap as about £20-30 or a little more for the alternative screens and cams. Also this means you don't have to drill any holes and can be removed if required without leaving any marks.

Couldn't agree more Steve (I am tempted to do the same LED Daytime lights as well as you!)

As for the camera, I bought the monitor rear view mirror for £12 and the camera for £11, I am just waiting for it to come through from China. Other than that, I bught a relay and some wire, total cost around about £26

Whats the relay for. I powered all my stuff off the reversing light.

These aren't exactly DRL's James ,more like additional tail brake and indicators. These are the old ones I had on.

I bought the relay as I am also in need of powering the TFT Monitor, I only want it to come on when I power the reverse, and on the basis I dont want to overload the reverse circuit, and I will have the wires running all the way through the car for the monitor as well as the camera, I thought it best to be safe!

Fair enough, I it is probably safer that way.

Although most sites that sell the camera say they are powered direct from the reverse light. Its the monitor where they are a bit hazy on where its powered.

If I recall, I powered the whole lot off the reverse light. Seeing the cam cable was running down the car, I put the power lead down with it as well. So far I have had no bother with it and its been on about 2-3 years.

If you can get a CCD type rather than CMOS as they give a slightly clearer picture and also slightly better at night.
