Mk2 Focus 1.8 Duratec He - Coolant Temp Problem

Featured Replies

having similar symptoms so no need to start new thread.  car recently started pinking constantly when feathering throttle.  if I blip throttle at tickover, you can now hear the air filter drawing air, with a slight delay in revs picking up.  mpg dropped around 9 mpg.  temp on test menu is 87c when driving and been sat ticking over for 20 min, test reading of engine temp not went above 99c.

Anyone think it's worth trying a thermostat.

  • The temperature gauge shows a value which is completely calculated by the PCM. this is not a realtime value measured by the temperature sensor. The needle going to the middle within 30 seconds has not

  • If its a petrol then yes it should get up to 90 its therefore overcooling so the thermostat is likely stuck open

I haven't read the rest of the thread, but the thermostat on this engine doesn't open until 90c.  It sounds like yours is working fine.
