Smart Charging System Issue With 2004 Cmax Zetec 1.8

Featured Replies

Hello, Had the RED battery light come on and loss of power steering. Taken to garage by RAC. Garage tells me the alternator was at fault. Fitted new FORD one but battery light still on. Been told that it needs new ECU?? Ford quote £1200?? Lots on the net about it. Anyone come across this before? Cheers

Hi John,

Start with the simple things. Check the battery. If the battery is not new, and is not silver calcium, this is likely the cause of the issue. You might want to replace it with a silver calcium battery. I bought a Bosch S4 for my CMAX and it worked a treat! like you I had the battery light on but knew it wasnt the alternator as the battery just stopped getting charged, everytime it was jump started and then left to run it would charge up fine (until the next time anyway!)
