Name The Part.

Hi, all.

Just a quick question. My indicator won't self-cancel when I turn left. After investigating, it's become apparent that the plastic block on the collar on the steering wheel has worn down. However, I've spent days Googling this, but I can't seem to find out what it's called, so I can search for places that might sell it.

Does anyone have any idea what the FOC these things are called?

Many thanks in advance. :)

Which model and year?

If it's separate from other mechanisms on the column then it's an indicator stalk.

If it's integral to the main mechanism then it's basically a clock spring unit.

Thanks for your reply.

It's a 1999 (T Reg) Fiesta.

The object I'm trying to identify is not the indicator stalk, as I have removed it.

When the indicator stalk is active, a little plastic plate pops out. There is a black plastic collar that's fixed to the back of the steering wheel that rubs against these plates when you turn the wheel, causing the indicator to cancel, as well as an audible click when you turn the wheel when the indicator is on. As it's so worn down, although it still clicks, it doesn't quite strike the plastic plates on the indicator stalk enough to cancel the signal, and needs replacing. I believe the part I'm trying to identify is very close to the clock spring, but not actually a part of it, although I could be wrong.

Hope this helps.

Cant say for definite but that does sound like the clock spring unit.

If disconnecting any airbag components be sure to disconnect the car's battery at least 20 minutes before working on them so as to allow residual electricity to disperse or a nasty surprise can occur.

Also be sure you have your radio security code first as it is a pain trying to find it when the radio doesn't switch on.
