Just a quick Q, what do you fill your car up with at the petrol station? There should be a poll attached

fuel :P

rapeseed oil lol

Petrol...but I tent to find others in front of me at the pump filling themselves up with food, drinks and just about the whole shop!

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

Nearest, when running low. Cheapest and fill up, after payday. Usually local BP garage generally just BP unleaded. Sometimes "extremium" think it's really called excellium?

We call it extremium because of the cost! But is it any better? Is it worth it? Would welcome opions :-)

i know on my diesel flap it states bp, but i think shell is better, used to run the scoobs off it.... the focus being a derv quite enjoys the fuel also, i mean 45 mpg round town driving from a lightly modded 1.8tdci

Hey Martyn don't you ever sleep? Watching out for kno8$ after your stuff??!!! ☺

somat like that lol..... nah normally go bed around 1ish, n up at 6 go work.... i live of coffee lmao

I get BP as it's about 2 mins away and I collect my lovely nectar points to buy random stuff! Sometimes I get in the wrong queue and HAVE to buy extremium. Not sure ive ever filled up with shell, tbh not even sure where one is. I'll look out

COFFEE!

maybe beer time now tho lol

No way, just had wine, beer, Indian, more beer, tia maria coffee! Only so much a girl can take!

till you get drunk?

No, until I'm physically full! Drinking is never a problem! Ha ha

I go for Shell FuelSave Diesel. I always get more MPG to the tank and across all the cars I have been doing this with, they all get better MPG, Smoother running, and havent had any fuel filter related issues.

On average I pay £2 more per tank, but when you add that up, thats just over £100 a year for better economy and a more reliable car.

Do you reckon shell better than BP for petrol also?

I say Shell is the better of the ones I have tried, the Cee'd got on better with Shell than BP or any other for that matter (that was petrol) as is the same for diesel.

Usually Sainsbury's, it's right next to work. Or Tesco/Esso.

will using shell v power diesel. bp ultimate etc etc have any added benefit or is it wasted on a 1.6 tdci?

I only use shell, esso and bp for the car. The bike gets whatever is nearest - when you only get 140 miles out a tank and are in the middle of nowhere you can't be picky.

I have been trying esso ultimate diesel over the last few weeks, I have tried shell v power diesel before and went back to normal fuel save diesel. I will be doing exactly the same this time.

As per last time, my mpg has actually dropped again and there is no difference in how smooth the engine is or anything. So I will keep the extra few pence per litre thanks.

On a non mapped, stock 1.6, you will get nothing out of it really, it might help to clean the engine a little bit (where talking blowing the dust off the worktop once) all your doing is clearing that little bit but it doesnt go anywhere else. As for power, you might feel a teeny tiny bit more response, but you can get that with a good service and a new air filter every 6 weeks, and you dont need to remortgage for the pleasure!

If you really want a noticeable benefit to the car, and you want to clean it out you have two options:

1) Buy some BG244 or BG240 (not sure how its advertised these days) pop that in the tank with a full tank of fuel and run it, this will be more like a wiping down the surface with a wet cloth. It gives everything a quick clean, removes large debris and offers a lot more than just blowing at it, but it cant clean everything.

or

2) Spend £100 as a one off. Get your car TerraClean'ed - this is like stripping the entire kitching down, dusting it, wiping it, spit polishing it, foam steam clean wax, and giving it about 3 layers of further polishing. It costs a chunk in the outlay, but the engine is quiter, smoother, more efficient, more reliable, helps take the pressure off the turbo and generally makes your cars life a lot easier and will save you money in the long run.

I would highly recommend the Teraclean service, I havent had it done (but the second I have that money in my bank account spare - I will be!) as too many people have come back with excellent reviews of the service for it to be discounted. It really can give your car a massive boost, and done in conjuction with a decent service, you could see your MPG soaring a lot more than it is at the moment.

Different cars react differently to difference fuels, none of my cars have suffered or failed and have always given better returns using Shell, however as you can see, Stef has found that there is barely any benefit whatsoever to it. Its down to you to try them and see what you get, then weight up the benefits and drawbacks of each and decide which is better. I would highly recommend anyone who is using SuperMarket fuel to at least replace the fuel filter every 6-12 months (if your using a lot of the stuff - high mileage etc) however if its just a pottering around car, once a year does suffice.

ooo i'll look into that terracleaning :) i'll just stick to regular diesel :) always makes me laugh when people use the performance fuels when it makes no difference to what they drive( having an mg for 5+ years and people constantly asking if vpower gives more power on kseries) lol

lol, yeah it really doesnt make the jot of difference really, better off saving that extra £2 more on a tank and just using the fuelsave but yes, definately look into the terraclean.

If you look at this thread here: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/41765-terraclean-seems-to-be-spreading/

Clive did a thorough write up and it shows the benefits he had, MPG gains and general driveability improvement :)

the only difference is v power will burn quicker due to the higher octain which is good for the engine and the fuel is more pure, goes through alot more refineries than the standard supermarket stuff....
