Pick Up Lights

Featured Replies

hi, we bought a pick up and took the back off as it was rotten. bought another and the lights are a bit more under than before. anyone know how far under the lights can be to be legal as ours seem a bit too far under, any ideas please

what do you mean "a bit too far under"?

  • Author

the back sticks out about 23 inches from lights underneath

ah ok, so you mean the bodywork overhangs the lights by too much for it to be comfortably seen?

  • Author

yes, i think it hangs too far, what do you think

from what I gather, there is nothing I have seen that specifies the distance from the rear of the vehicle, however, common sense would say you cannot have it greater than about 15cm from the rear of the vehicle.

thank you, i thought it was a bit much. we will have to put a extension on the body, but thanks for your help

No worries, good luck!

Lights should be level with the back of the body so as to avoid anyone following you from misjudging the length of your vehicle and rear ending you.

Clive, on some flatbeds there are some minor indentations, are you aware of the official regulation, as I looked at the lighting regulations and couldnt see anything other than the distance between each of the light clusters off to near side, but couldnt see anything else.

thanks for your replies. what we did in the end was cut a foot off the back to make it shorter, looks good and i dont think anyone would know that we did it

Got any pics of the final result?

i think so too, he even cut the back board to size out of one of the sides of the old back, as this back we bought had a tail lift on and the old back board was too small. so yeh he (my husband) did a good job, and yes i did help, if it was only holding the boards while he cut them too size
