Electric Window Fault

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any problem with there electric window not stopping when it reaches the top its as though it thinks something is trapped and so it powers back down again ive tried the runners down the sides and removed the wind deflectors and still you've got to inch it up to the top.

You could try re-initialising the windows - procedure is in the handbook as this has to be done whenever the battery is disconnected. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the battery to get this to work properly.

Other than that you'd need to keep looking for anything restricting the glass from moving up freely. If you hold your finger on the switch does it drive to the top then? If so try doing this a few times and see if anything frees off?

Tried to re-initialise by the handbook doesn't work sends the window straight back down again and if u hold your finger on the switch it does drive to the top but comes straight back down think the door cards going to have to come off for a look :(

It will be your wind deflectors when did you put them on it did this when I put mine on and found that if I left them shut for a day or two they where ok after that .

Its not the wind deflectors ive had them in for about 3 years now with no probs till about 2 weeks ago ive already had them out though to see if it had anything to do with the problem but made no difference.

The glass could be tight in the seals, not always obvious to see but if you try a bit of watered down fairy liquid or similar in the glass run seals right round the door that might help as a bit of lubrication.

if one of the clips has come loose it could be that this is causing the anti trap function to kick in.

Door cards been off now everything looked ok inside greased the runners to make sure they were free put it back together and its just the same :(

if you remove the deflectors, what then?

Its exactly the same mate gets to the top and straight back down with the deflectors out.

Hello everyone, new here because I have a window problem also. The front passenger window works fine from all switches but does not close fully leaving a gap of about 1/8ths inch. It must have been for a short time as the wife has started mentioning that she can hear the road more and a wind noise. I found it when I washed it with the hose. Any idea as to what the problem is so that I can rectify it. I can push the window up by hand and it stays closed.

cheers Vic

Hi Vic,

I suggest you reset the electric wiundows and that should stop it from freezing too soon.

Kev,Yours seems perculiar, if you have had the door card off and everything is clear behind it I am stumped!

Thanks jeebowhite got me beat as well do u think it could be the door module as ive tried everthing else im getting sick of sending it up and down 3 times till it overides the antitrap device.

Thanks for the reply jeebowhite I haven't had much time to have a look and the weather has been kind so it has not been a problem. I will have a go tomorrow. Thanks Vic

Hi Kev,

Could be a bad module I suppose, but then again I dont know what part detects the resistance? I am unsure if the regulator detects the resistance and triggers a rollback or if the module is what controls it or what!

The best thing I can suggest is get the door card off, reconnect the window switch, and just disconnect the control box and others in turn, you may be able to get it to roll up direct from the motor and regulator bypassing the control module (unlikely though) or you may find when you disconnect something that it works, and then reconnect it doesnt....?

I'd expect the system works by the regulator sending pulses from it's motor back to the module and the module uses these to determine speed and rough position of the glass. Anti-trap is then triggered when it believes the window is in it's last few inches of travel and if it encounters an unexpected deceleration. May also relearn itself from time to time to account for the glass seals and mechanisms wearing over time.

Think it'll also be possible to put a 12V supply directly onto the regulator but check the correct pins to use etc from the wiring diagrams. The one I can see just has 1 set of connections going to the motor so you possibly reverse this to get the 2 directions of movement.

This is bizzare, I followed the advice regarding the front passenger door window not closing and sorted that out so it worked correctly.I lubricated the seals with silicone and reset as described. Thanks for the help.

That window now seems to have taken a life of its own by going down when it feels like it. It goes back up ok from either switch.

Any ideas please. It is a 2010 2.0 Titanium.

cheers Vic

  • 2 weeks later...

might be a bad switch closing the connection on its own?

Hi

I have exactly the same problem, the rear window on the drivers side drops down back down after you close it. I have tried all the suggestions on this thread, but its not cured the problem. I've took the door card off but can't see anything in the way either. Any other ideas? My current solution is to lock the windows from the front switch and just never open this window!

My focus is a Mk2 58 plate titanium spec.

Thanks

Martin

If you want to look at my post 'Window mind of its own' it may be of help.

cheers

Vic

Problem sorted, Ford diagnosis was that the fault lay in one of the mirrors so it gave a clue to the problem being in the door somewhere. Removed door card and checked the wiring, found a nick in a wire adjacent to but hidden in the panel which must have been shorting to earth. Taped it up and no problem since. Bingo!

  • 8 years later...

I had the problem of door window being closed with switch only to find it opened itself again (but only to 3/4 of the way down).  Here is the solution from the Ford site.

https://www.ford.co.uk/support/how-tos/more-vehicle-topics/mirrors-and-windows/what-are-one-touch-power-windows

"Bounce-Back
The window automatically stops and reverses if it detects an obstruction.

To override the bounce back feature:

Close the window until it reaches the point of resistance and let it reverse.
Lift the control within two seconds to override the feature and close the window.Bounce-back is now disabled and you can close the window manually. The window goes past the point of resistance and you can fully close it.

Resetting Bounce Back
The bounce-back feature will remain turned off until you reset the memory.

To reset the memory:

Close the window.
Press and hold the switch until the window is fully open. Keep the switch fully pressed for a few seconds.
Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed.Keep the switch held for a few seconds.
Press and hold the switch until the window is fully open. Keep the switch fully pressed for a few seconds.
Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed.Keep the switch held for a few seconds.
The above steps must be carried out within 30 seconds of starting the sequence.

Well I suppose an answer to a July 2014 post eight years later is not too long to drive about with the window open. 🤣🤣
