Focus 1.6 Tdci Econetic 2013 Banging

Featured Replies

hi sorry if this is in the wrong place. im having a nightmare with my 2013 focus 1.6 tdci its now 11 months old has 11602 miles on clock. about 3 and half months a go it started to bang when changing gear and a nice grinding and intermittent bang on braking and accelerating. ive had a hard time getting dealerships to say yes there is a fault even with videos of it happening. its been to 2 different delerships had 6 mechanics inc master techs numourus phone calles to tech support and ford customer relations. they firt faulted it as 1/2/3 syncromesh being at fault then changed there minds and faulted the flywheel dual mass. which they say was solid and no movement in it once they managed to remove it a new one was fitted. no new friction plate pressure plate or release bearing csc. now ive just picked it up tonight and thought I could hear a bang very faint though no its just me used to hearing things. after 11 miles yep its back the banging and clatter and shaking on switching off all the common failure signs. no investigation work was carried out as to the root cause. does anyone know what might cause it to fail after 11 miles/less and what might be causeing the failures? tight shaft, bearings, syncro etc. any help is appreciated as im at my wits end now blood pressure through the roof at doctors tonight. and its not my driving I drive quite conservatively plus had no problems with my last focus. cheers steve

hi welcome to the forum.

I have heard of cases where the engine mounts bolt or bolts have shered off causing alot of movement in the engine,

Could possibly be the case here not 100% mate,

I've saw two cases of engine mount bolts on the 1.6TDCi so may be worth getting those checked over.

Most of all take care of yourself mate.

on the basis its a 2013 plate, I would take it back to the dealer - its under warranty.

I would argue that you have reported the issue, they have tried to diagnose the issue, they have got people involved, and so therefore the issue needs to be resolved. There is clearly a problem and it should not be down to you to make the issue happen for them when they are in the car.

I would contact Ford Customer Service at Head Office - leave it with them! they are quite efficient and proficient at kicking dealers in the backside to sort it out :)

My work mate had trouble with local dealership,

He contacted head office whom got in touch with local dealership

A six month dispute over a faulty ABS control unit was solved within 7 days of him contacting head office regarding the dealership.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply 's Ive been talking to ford uk customer relationship center just before I took the car to a different dealership. Unfortunately they haven't been that much help. I rang the dealership up when it started banging yesterday and the service manager said use the car for a week or so see how you get on. Told ford uk this and a not so helpful lass said he's said to use it so use it. This was after I explained to both of them I didn't want to as I didn't want to cause any more damage to the car. I've just spoken to the head office of the dealership which are trust ford. The lady I spoke to was angry about the position I'd been put in. And told me to go to the dealership refuse to go until I'd spoken to the dealer principle or his secretary. I managed to speak to the Secretary and explained things. They have now given me a courtesy car and she's going to ring back tomorrow as the car is now at the dealership. I'm just a bit confused as to what's the root cause of the fault and why they didn't and we're told by ford not to investigate further. And why they were told just to change the flywheel and nothing else. Sorry it's long winded. Cheers

Glad that its getting there Steve! and glad that you managed to get some movement on it!

Keep us posted as to the result!

Hi jeebowhite, quick up date after having to ring the dealership secretary up who got straight on the defensive after I ask very politely if she had any updates. She said I didn't realise there was a time scale on this. Keeping calm I politely ended the call and received one half an hour later from the service manager who says they can not fault the car. (back to square one again) had to explain the faults again. And now want me to go on a drive in my car and then in his to compare them again. Nightmare. Least my cars milage will be low lol. Will let you know any updates. By the way the dealership I first took the car to was trust ford barnsley who couldn't fault it. But a mechanic came out with me n said it sounded like lash in the box. And the second dealership is trust ford Huddersfield were most of the problems have been with. Hopefully I won't be waiting as long as the poor bloke who picked his van up from the accident center yesterday his had been there 190 days he said. Ouch. Any how am rambling again lol.

Steve

Ouch!

Hopefully they sort themselves out! there is clearly a fault, but I hate it when they say there isnt one! just because I am not sneezing now doesnt mean I dont have a cold is my argument! so I would stand firm. If you need another review then you should definately see if any other dealers can have a look at it, someone, somewhere is missing the bleedin obvious!

Hi all sorry it's been so long. Still not got my car back so I've sent my point of sale a letter rejecting the car. The dealership where the car is still cannot find the fault and after months of me asking for a field engineer. They've come to the conclusion they need a field engineer. I think this is down to me rejecting the car and letting ford uk customer relationship center know this too. Obviously point of sale not happy and is now with there legal department. But I've now been told that ford have asked the dealership to price up replacement parts for the gearbox vs costs of a new gearbox. Still standing my ground on this but hopefully what ever the outcome it may help someone else in the future as I recently saw a post on another site of someone with similar issue who didn't get his fixed and lost out on money selling it back to the dealership. Any how lovely weather for ducks will post any other updates. Cheers

Good luck Steve, looking forward to the outcome of this. Depending on when you reported the issue first, you may need to compile all the evidence, letters, phone calls, dates anything you have to support your case for rejection. Are you getting another Ford or have you been put off?
