Focus Zetec Poor Performance

Featured Replies

I took delivery of a new focus1.6 zetec 105 in April this year . I'm generally pleased with it overall except it seems to be a bit flat compared to my 2009 focus 1.6 zetec 105. It's been back to main dealer and been checked over they said that it is upto date and that this is normal because of the cats. The service advisor said that when I drive it to be a bit more brutal with it but I didn't buy it to drive it brutally I never had to drive my last focus like this and I never had any bother with it . I just want to know if this is normal for this 1.6 zetec. It's fine when driving and performs quite well until you come to an incline and loses power much more than the older zetec did. I would like to know how others are experiencing theirs. Thanks John5713

Modern EU emission demands often mean that engines are now strangled and even though both are rated at 105bhp at the flywheel they could be quite different by the time it gets to the wheels sadly. Obviously on hills it's the torque that counts and this could be suffering too. You will just have to change down and give it a lot of welly.

I suggest blanking the EGR valve, this will give you a bit more oomph.

I agree my dad has just chopped in his 61 plate 1600 zetec for a new 1600 zetec and frankly its totally gutless and at times it could be damned right dangerous, The only car that's worse I have driven is a 3 cylinder non turbo fiesta, I have driven both of my dads cars and you you have to rev the nuts out of it and as for hills change up change down change up change down. I wish he liked diesels but it just reminds him of a van "he says" , I know the cats and emissions have to be in touch but omg its ridiculous, but then he drives slow so it doesn't bother him but sheesh it would really peesh me off.
