Interior Light/ Ultrasonic Alarm

Featured Replies

i've had a MK3 for about six months now and I am convinced that I haven't seen this before.

On the interior light fitting above the dash, there are two what appear to be holes which I believe are part of the ultrasonics.

Tonight with ignition and sidelights on I get dim orange lights glowing in these holes- quite bright if you put your hand up there and let them shine on it.

They are pretty obvious when you cast a glance in the rear view mirror so I cannot believe I have never seen them before while driving in the dark.

Confused - can ne1 shed any light on this?

thanks

They are called ambient lights (or submarine lighting).

They are an expensive option on most Fords.

Thanks for reply Stoney.

I have the seat pack fitted and puddle lighting on the door mirrors, also footwell lighting, but these lights wouldn't appear to contribute anything significant, in fact they are quite a distraction when driving at night. Because of that, I have convinced myself that they didnt used to be on (course I could be mistaken, often am!).

Is there some reason why they now stay on all the time with lighting on?

They are designed to add a subtle ambient light inside the car when driving at night.

They aid low level visibility to controls, gears and handbrake without having to use a blinding courtesy light when driving.

I retrofitted a set to my Mk2 Focus, from Ford the units are over £100.

Ah well, presumably they've been on since I bought the car last february and I didn't notice. Looking through the spec it does indeed say 'submarine lighting' as standard on titanium but i interpreted this as as the footwell lighting when I first saw it (you know, low down).

Thanks very much for the info, its much appreciated.

if you dont want them, I would happily swap them with mine :p

The pinhole submarine ambient lighting is quite good, I had it on my Fiesta.

I really hate the overhead ambient lighting on my Focus though, it is a big strip of colour and it always distracts me at night as it looks like car head lights in the mirror out of my peripheral vision.
