Massive Suspension Troubles

Featured Replies

Hi, Im owner of Mondeo 2006, 2.0 Tdci Ghia X. Since early beginning I was having problems with my suspension and steering. Here is what is going on, I hope you can help me, because I ran out of ideas.

When Im driving on smooth road without any hops, skips or holes the suspension work more than fine. If there is anything bad on the road there is unpleasant sound of metal hitting metal. So I have changed wishbones, antiroll bar links front and rear and all four shocks absorbers.( All within 14 days ) It helped just a little, little bit. Its quiter but not always. PS Today when I had an emergency braking I heard resounding and disturbing sound like ball joint or whole wishbone cracked ( or maybe moved due to bad bolting the screws ? ). So its very unpleasant to drive, noisy and dangerous.

Second thing is steering. If im not holding the steering wheel very hard it turns randomly. I did wheel aligment in car services and it didint help at all. It is worse and worse every day.

Right now I want to check what is it and how much it could cost to fix it and I hope it can be done. Im asking here because neither of my mechanics couldnt exactly tell me why it is happening - and I ve asked three already.

Thanks.

Have they checked the top mount and bearings?

Actually no. I will ask for it. What about springs? Maybe they are moving too rough ?

common things for the springs to snap, changed tonnes of them !!!!

Does the steering make grinding or twanging noises when turning?

Is the car level at the corners?

Springs looked nicely, but I will then slowly change everything.

Stoney871 I would say there is wiping sound while turing.

Have you checked that the arch liners are positioned properly?
