I have a w reg 2000 focus 1.8 16v zetec. When the fuel gauge show below 1/4 -1/8th of a tank the engine starts to run very erratically. It starts ok but when you pull off or try to rev it the engine bogs. no warning lights.

Anyone any ideas?

    gawd knows. only had the car 2 weeks. i was thinking along the same lines. why would it happen when the tank it quarter full though?

    as the tank gets lower, it sucks more cack out the bottom of the tank and pumps it through the filter. as the filter gets more clogged and has less fuel pressure, it starts to miss a beat, as you get more fuel pressure in there with a more full tank, it has enough pressure to keep it going!

    Its like trying to squirt tomato sauce through a squeezy bottle, its a darned site easier when its full, but at the bottom of the bottle, your squirting and its just splurging little spots everywhere :P
