Input Shaft Worn?

Featured Replies

Had the seal changed on the gear selector rod couple of months back as it was leaking,post-42513-141044459197_thumb.jpg

It's begun to leak again just as bad,was told it may be the input shaft that's worn so isn't sealing? Did a little google and they're talking about pressing the clutch and a noise goes away, well mine does this too.

Could an input shaft also cause judder on pull away as I think I need the clutch doing aswell.

cheers

Is it a constant noise when you don't have the clutch down?

When I first start the engine from cold it idles at about 1200rpm and drops to 850 after a few mins.the noise sounds like something rotating loudly I guess, but as soon as I press the clutch the noise will go and come back when I let go.i thought it was a thrust bearing myself. Oh and the noise gets quieter after driving aswell.

I don't do a lot of miles in the car,I only use it weekends and sometimes not even that .

That's what I was thinking a thrust bearing, as one went on my mates car and it sounded awful.

Well I need the clutch done ,so I rang a gearbox specialist who said they can fit a 3pc on it for £217 and have a look at the rest of it too

If I was you mate I would get a few quotes cause garages want the work so they will try and beat the price!

Hopefully you get it sorted though mate!

Yeah I had a clutch quote for £237 before today's one,the clutch kit costs £130 as it is so they've gotta earn on the labour atleast,I don't mind paying people to do a job as long as it's good anyway.

Ohh. So none of the places want to beat it then?

That's weird

Yeah they're opinions just seem to be "that's the price".like there's no give in the price,I have more confidence in a gearbox specialist anyway as atleast I know it will be done correctly.

Stupid, you'd think they'd won't the work really.

Yeah don't blame you mate!
