Hi All. We've been on a bit of a run between Huddersfield, Sheffield & around these areas. I have uploaded these pictures to show the results of fuel consumption. A few notes; I wasn't trying to achieve anything, just driving with traffic. There was no harsh driving, I didn't hang around either, overtaking several times under the correct conditions. I was wondering if (anything), people thought of these numbers. The fuel used was Texaco ordinary diesel,with a 1% Millers Ecomax additive.

Its not bad economy,

But if you blank your egr valve following this guide:

And fit a straight swap Green cotton induction filter,

You will see an increase in economy aswell as reduced turbo lag.

Blanking the EGR prevents excessive amounts of Carbon build up in your engine oil,

It is the build up of carbon which slowly builds up around the "turbo oil feed pipe" restricting the flow of oil feeding to the turbo,

Which ultimately leads to turbo failure,

So after you have blanked/Deleted the EGR valve, i recommend using a Can of "Wynne's Engine Flush" on your next oil change,

The can costs less than 5 GBP

It breaks down the built up carbon and sludge inside the engine caused by the operations of the EGR,

I've used Wynne's engine flush many times and found it very effective, always follow instructions.

Then fill up to specified level with Castrol Edge 5w-30 fully synthetic believe it or not it does help mpg aswell.

Thanks for taking the time to post all that info. I am not at all mechanically minded & have talked to my usual garage mechanic about this. He wasn't very keen on the idea, suggesting regular servicing should be enough. He suggested the Millers Oil additive, saying this should keep the engine clean enough. At the oil change he uses another Millers oil additive, but I don't know which one. For a filter, oil, flush & additive, he charges me £42.

It can occur on the 2.0TDCi but I've not yet saw an EML appear on a 1.6TDCi

However in any case the EML eventually stops after a few months accepting the blanking plate.

My previous car was also a Diesel. At the annual car inspection they noticed that the soot emissions were to high to approve my car. :(

The garage told me to put some additive in my fueltank and ride with high RPM's...... This completely blown up my turbo and engine.

Big white smoke out of the back, very weird engine noises. A policeman on a motorbike stopped me and I had to call roadservice to tow me back to the garage. :angry::angry: There they saw that all of my engine oil had been used up by the engine, so that's what made the metal-on-metal sounds......

The repaircosts for the turbo and head gasket were more than 2000 euros and even after that they were not sure it would pass the inspection. So I sold this car, it was more than 10 years old and not even worth 2000 euros anymore :( So no more additives for me :o

I now drive a Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi and drive mostly on the motorway at a maximum speed of 130 km/h. With that kind of driving and early shifting (at max 2500 rpm) I get an average fuel consumption of 20 kilometers on 1 liter diesel. (5 ltr/100 km) which will get me almost 900 km's on 1 tank (45 liters)

In your non-metric system of mpg that would be 56.5 MPG :) ....... not bad for a 9 year old car with 200.000 kms on the clock :D

I would say for any older cars that have done a few miles, get yourself a Terraclean service. Best £100 you can spend on a car!
