Cv Joint For 2004 Fusion 1.4+ Semi-Automatic ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had my fusion for nearly a year now and its been great. However the drivers side CV joint has been going and its now sitting in a garage waiting to be fixed. Big problem is finding the part ! We have had the CV joint for the automatic and the manual versions sent and they don't fit. The parts dealers seem to have no idea that it is different for the semi-auto car. No-one seems to have the part for a semi-automatic except Ford who sell it with the axle included which bumps up the price considerably.

Anyone have any clue where I could get the part I'm after OR even what the part is !?

Cheers

GG

The semi auto box is a manual iB5 gearbox.

Apart from the gearbox being built or selected with having finer tolerances in the shift mechanism and having shift actuators it is no different to a manual Fusion's gearbox.

Cheers Dan - does that mean that the manual version of the CV joint should fit ? Garage insists it doesn't ?

Ford gave me the part number required -1142787. It looks like the whole driveshaft rather than just CV joint though ? . I thought that was the diesel version though ? So frustrating for something that should be straightforward.

Just had a look at the workshop manual and from what I can make out the outer CV joint is not replaceable, only the rubber boot.

CAUTION:
The outer constant velocity (CV) joint is a press fit. Do not disassemble. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the outer CV joint.
On looking at earlier Fiesta info it does show CV joint dismantling so I can only assume the CV joints ordered were for earlier driveshafts. (MK4 & MK5 Fiesta's).
