Fiesta Turbo Whistle

Featured Replies

I own a 2010 1.4 tdci fiesta. The dealer I bought the car from said that they replaced the turbo after I complianed of a whistling noise under acceleration.

It still makes the noise so I took it back and they said that it should make this noise.

I always thought turbo's on Diesel engines should be quiet.

Should diesel turbo's whistle ?.

It depends what you mean by whistle.

I can hear the forced induction whoosh on my diesel, it is a bit like a low pitch whistle...

The whistle starts around 1500 rpm and goes/ gets drowned out just over 2000. Some times you can hear the whistle die down when you lift off.

I would say you should look for a split in a turbo hose or pipe.

Thanks. I will check what pipes I can find.

I checked the pipes but can find no sign of splits or any other damage.

Maybe it could just be the normal noise made by a turbo.

you expect a slight whistle, but if its any more than that such as black smoke from the exhaust its a leak. the easiest way to tell is to get the car running and either leave it idle, or preferably have someone rev it a little, then feel around the hoses and pipes for a split. I detected mine when the car was idling without too much issue but it was a massive crack!

Sometimes the noise comes from a leak in the exhaust or exhaust side of the turbo rather than the boost hoses

Still can't see any splits and the exhaust seems ok too.

Must be normal noise for turbo to make.

Thanks to all who answered my question.
