Rust And Water On Strut Top

Featured Replies

Hello - Just bought a 2002 Ford Fusion 3 today, 1.6 petrol.

Having another good look around it this afternoon, noticed some water sitting in the strut top on the nearside. Noticed a bit of rust there when viewing the car, but was dry at the time (last week).

Anyone know how the water gets in there?

Thanks.

It's just a fusion/fiesta thing just fill it with grease and that's all you can do really

Water drips off the scuttle panel onto it. Just dry it out an cover it in grease

Done this now.

Scraped out as much muck as possible using combination of screwdriver, paper towel and cotton bud(!)

Dried it out with a hoover

Applied general purpose grease to seal the 'hole'

Thanks again.

Water can seep in from under the windscreen washer jets.

A more common issue is the water finding its way into the spark plug wells.

Seal the jet body's to the bonnet with silicone sealant if they have not already been done.

Also, pull the HT leads and check for water in the spark plug wells.
