Looking at replacing two rear tyres which are Wanl li 1088s (not very good at all)

What's a decent tyre that's not going to wear too much.

Do about 10 miles on a motorway and 5 miles on country roads per day.

Looking at Nexen nblue eco's as they seem to get a decent review.

Tryes are 205/50/17

Budget- whatever is good value

seen Nexen Nblue Ecos for £50 a tyre Good reviews but C rating for Noise and Wet Grip.

Also seen Goodyear Efficent Grip Performance for £90 - looks good but reviews seem to say they wear quite quickly.

205/50/17s are more expensive than I expected them to be! Don't seem much cheaper than my 235/45/17s, which surprised me, a little. On the rear, most tyres should wear at least reasonably, but it is still the case that some will be better than others (the Goodyear EGPs should still be ok on the rear, but I'd expect the older EGs to be slightly better on wear and slightly worse on just about everything else, except economy).

Anyway, given your priorities, those Nexen N'blues aren't a bad choice.

(Nexen N'Blue ECO - B, C, 74 so nominally they are a bit noisy and the 'C' in the wet isn't the best, but they are about half the price of some of the top performing options; note that Nexen N'Fera SU4 (C, B 71) are quieter and better in the wet, according to the EU figures, and not that much more expensive)

Consider also:

Vredestein Sportrac 5 (maybe the h'kooks above are better)

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 (probably a bit old; there are probably better H'kooks)

Petlas Velox Sport PT741 (Petlas are a bit obscure, but ought to be ok (C, C, 71) and cheap)

Avon ZV5 (bit suspicious about wear)

Fulda Sport Control (a mid priced tyre that isn't all that good on fuel, but has good noise figures; indifferent in most other ways)

Maxtrek Maximus M1 (possible, on the EU figures; not enough info)

Semperit Speed-Life (possible, a bit expensive for mid range perf, though)

I drive 27miles each way: mixture of motorway (120kph) and national road (100kph). I had the Avons for about 3 weeks now and they are holding up well. Road noise has decreased.Efficient in both wet and dry. Traction control only kicked in while on very wet days and I gave it the boot. Fuel efficiency, which is important for me, is good so far. 33 psi all round, with the car unloaded. Forgot to say that I have 17" rims as yours with 205/50/17 tyres. Good balance of price and performance. Unsure of long term wear but it should be ok on the rear wheels.

Shop around online as there are deals to be had over them in the UK. Also, I think one other member here got a great deal on mid range tyres in ASDA.

How much would a garage cost to fit.

Ideally i'd like the two Maxxis I have on the front to the rear and the new tyres on the front.

in the market for 5 all season tyres pricing on line from camskill ,eiretyre.oponeo,my tyres couple of other uk sites its a mine field trying to decide which one's to buy have budget up to €120 a tyre in 205x55x16 the search begins in earnest :D as car passed nct but got advisory on 3 tyres near legal limit

I would give the uniroyal rainsport 3 a go. I had them (rainsport 2) on my evo and cupra r and they are one of the best tyres for the budget. The rainsport 3 are even better.

thats a performance tyre fitted to your evo/ cupra

I have the 205/50x17 the fronts are goodyear efficient grip performance and the rear are jinyu, no excessive noise from front or rear.

goodyears very good grip BUT sidrewalls just too soft for me, as for the jinyu's , I do moan about my jinyus BUT grip/noise is good on the rear have had no problems at all even for a £37 tyre. All these tyres were on the car when I bought it and soon being replaced by continental sport contact 5..even though the goodyears are brand new.. I cant recommend conti's high enough.

You simply get what you pay for with tyres.

A Jaguar came into my place and can you believe it he has £63 budget tyres on the rear 255/35x20 tight GIT....

Hankooks get my vote out of the list nice tyres above.... :driving:

About a tenner (probably as low as 7 or 8 and as high as 15). note that if you go with a 'partner program' supplier (eg, Tyre Shopper and probably Asda and Tesco are effectively partners of Black Circles and someone or another), you pay one partner and just rock up at the specified fitter and they fit them.

If you haven't got a cooperative garage near by, that might be a good option.

I seem to remember one of the on-line suppliers had a map of their nearby partners of whom there were hundreds, with indicative fitting prices, but I can't unfortunately remember which one. Another approach is just to phone a few local suppliers and when they ask you how much you've been quoted give them the online price and see if they'll match it or fit the tyres that you want.

Hardly. Have you seen the price and reviews? I have tried many different tyres and never found one that has better grip in the wet and so little road noise. I was getting about 20000 miles each too.

best tyres with most grip should be on the rear of the vehicle .

I don't know about swapping, I've never asked a garage to do that.

The the fitting price guide that I was thinking of is at mytyres; you have to select a tyre - click on details - and then go through to 'Search for a fitting station'. They will list fitting places close to a particular postcode, so you just have to give them the relevant postcode info; home, work or somewhere else, I suppose, and they'll give you a list and prices, though I suspect these prices are a little more negotiable than many.
