1.8 Tdci White/blue Smoke Cold, Lack Of Power, Vibration At Idle

Featured Replies

Hello!

I am into day 30 of trying to find my problem.Bought the car 2 months ago.Engine runs smooth , except some smoke on startup and vibrations at idle.

Noticed lack of power and traced it to a hole in the exhaust (below the catalytic converted)Replaced that and noticed the catalytic converted was clogged.

Hollowed it out and fixed the exhaust. Now the problems started getting worse(also due to low temperatures)

Car: 2002 1.8 TDCI 115 hp 190,000 km ( i suspect he car has over 300,000)

SYMPTOMS:

- Excessive White/Blue smoke on startup(up to 5 min or till I drive a little)

- Lack of power until 2,000 rpm

- Vibrations on idle.

- Vibrations thrue gas pedal

- Bad Brake performance

TRIED SOLUTIONS:

-New heater plugs

-Cleaned intercooler and piping of oil

-Blanked EGR Valve

-Fixed hole in the vacuum pipin

-Checked for intercooler leaks

The oil is again back , coming from the turbo, no noticable vaccum on the egr and turbo pipes.Actuators move freely on EGR and Turbo , but don't move while revving the engine. Some times the power comes back to low rpms but lacks at high rpm.

Where to look further?

-Injectors?

-Vacuum pump?

-Turbo failure

-Bad compression rings or valve seals?

I have no missing oil(other than normal) and missing coolant. Please help!

Hi, try a new fuel fitter.

First thing I did was changing oil and filters. But I found out it doesn't smoke if its cold , but when the car is stationary over night .

So ether the valve seals or turbo or both. Can't think of something else.

It is easy to check the turbo, just take the air filter box of and the pipe to the turbo, and feel with your finger to see if there is any play, if there is a lot of movement then you need to replace it.
