I Can't Drive My Car More Than 140 Km-Hour

Featured Replies

hi all

I'm drive Ford focus mk2 1,6 l petrol engine automatic ghia 2007, and I can't drive it more than 140 km-hour on Highway, when transfer to manual transmission the 1st, 2nd gear doing well but the 3rd gear not give power over 4000 rbm ,

notice., I just replaced the engine by used one , I change the spark plugs, engine oil , air filter, the timing belt were ok

any ideas for that and how it fix. thanx all

Sounds like the grearing has failed. Try the selector. What is the gearbox model?

If it's like the focus c max auto box then you are in trouble. Have a look on the cmaxownersclub forum. Plenty in there.

140km is about 85 in real money.

Slow down...:-)

You say you've replaced the engine, why was that? Was gearbox fine before?

hi , Kervin

I don't know what is the gear box model but it have 4 gears

hi, Bill

I was replaced my engine cause it damage after 255000 km

and the gear box were fine with my old engine

& I'll slow down if it cheap

If it's failing to pull more than 4000 rpm in 3rd and worse in higher gears it could be that your replacement engine is poorly, or something wasn't assembled correctly when it was fitted.

Thanks Troy

But how can I prove that the engine is poor by onther way or test it.

friend till me that the speed come from transmission:) so he advice to maintain it by changing the transmission oil and filter.

or check the speed sensor located around the transmission.

mechanic told me that I have to check the timing belt fitted.

any ideas

Worth checking those items your friend suggested and see if any of that helps.

For the performance of the engine itself it may be possible to have a compression test carried out, that would give a general indication of the state of the cylinders, piston rings and valves sealing etc.

Bit hard to think of best way to check if it's losing power or transmission related as I don't know much about the gearbox part of it. If the revs go up but the car doesn't go any faster that would be transmission related but if it goes into 3rd nicely and wont go over 4000 rpm or lower if you're going uphill then could be down on power.

it could be one or two of the cylinders are not working, check the spark plugs and the cables and see if they ignites while engine is running, also see if there are oil around the spark plugs.
