MK6 Reverse Gear

Featured Replies

9 times out of 10 when i go into reverse i hear a crunch,

does anyone else expierence this or should i be booking it in?

I have some warranty left so if a problem would this be covered?

Thanks

On my mk6 I used to have it crunched 9 times out of 10, often 10 times out of ten! Pumping the clutch helped a bit but it was something I never sorted even at every service etc telling them, they didnt/couldnt do much.

When I did take it in they added grease/some sort of lubricant to the gears and it helped but never lasted long and the crunch came back.

Least im not the only one then :L

Will give pumping the clutch ago :D

Thanks

Yep, I got this in my Mk6. Sometimes if I paused between putting the clutch in and actually putting it in reverse it was fine.

Hi ive had mk2, mk3, mk5, 2 ka's, escort, mondeo and fusion all crunch into reverse 9 times out of 10. The mk7 new fiesta is also reported to do the same. Welcome to the world of the ford crunch.

my mk4 fiesta used to do it alot, now its not so bad. i haven't done anything to it so maybe the solution is to let the car heal itself lol!

Mine crunches.... sometimes but not often.

Is it damaging to the gears when this happens?

Common problem unfortunatly, my old Focus did it, wifes's MK6 she had did it, one of the reasons she got rid of it as well as it being a noisy car, she's now got a '54 plate clio and has a pull up ring on the lever and doesn't crunch at all and it's a lot quieter in the cabin also.

Cheers Pete

Hi, I have a MK6 and it does crunch at times. My sisters Focus 03 plate mk1 i think also does this but alot more often.

I read that it only happens when the car is moving. So i tried braking completly untill the car was stationary and then putting it into reverse and it doesn't crunch.

But i sometimes cant put the car into reverse gear unless i let the clutch go and press it again.

If i jump in mine and start it up and go into reverse from there it does it :(

Sometimes its a pain to get it out of reverse aswell! :(

Hi, this is my first post - just joined having picked up an 02 mk6 1.6 Ghia this week. Now I did something most people probably don't - and to be honest I don't usually - I read the manual! I'm sure it said something about pausing for a mo before selecting reverse. this kind of makes sense, you let the engine speed re-adjust and make sure you're safley out of all other gears.

I hope I don't experience this - having picked it up from the garage it's been parked on my drive since waiting fo rthe insurance docs to come through so I could tax it - finally taxed it today.

hey guys , yea the ford crunch lol love it think he is right when you start the car and go strait to reverce the engine is still not idiling at the right rpm so when you select rev gear it grinds a bit , when starting it up wait till its idleing ok then select reverce gear and it wont do it . hope that helped !
