Fumes Type Smell Inside.

We have just bought a 2006 s max to replace a written off focus, but we are experiencing an exhaust type smell within the cab area! I am taking it back to the dealer next week, but would like to be well informed before I go. Thanks.

    Could be a leak somewhere up front and then taken in by the blowers?

    Yes, I assumed it is a leak but am asking if it is a common problem or if anyone has encountered the same issue?

    It seems to be worse when the vehicle is stationary.

    Check the seal on the filler cap. It's surprising how a perished seal can cause significant fuel smells inside the cabin.

    I have the same issue at the moment, I do have a leaking EGR valve as I need to replace the gaskets (just bought this morning) the gaskets are about 3.60 each and relatively easy to replace.

    It was the injector seals.

    They fixed them once and made a right mess of it!

    Just collected it for the second time and they've replaced all the seals and leads on the injectors.

    All good for now.....

    I had only recently purchased the s max and it has been covered by the garages warranty. The sum of £600 was mentioned, but that was before they needed doing a second time!
