Escort Mk4 Poor Fuel Economy

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I have a UK 1987 ford escort mk4 1.3 OHV engine and am either only getting 20 MPG or the fuel gauge is faulty.

There are no leaks (that i can see) and the Carb has recently been changed for the superior weber 32IBF (professionally changed by one of the few remaining carb experts). I thought the old VV was the problem but I am still getting a low reading on my gauge. I filled up £45 and it filled the tank up to the top.

It smells a little fuelly when I drive but nothing crazy, what you expect from an old car.

I don't drive like an idiot and its only a 1.3. My dads 2.8i Capri gets more mileage.

Sny advice would be great, Thanks alot everyone

Chris
