Old Driver But Newbie Dashcam User

Featured Replies

Hi, after a very close shave avoiding a another car pulling out of a side street and realising later I probably would have lost my NCB due to there being no witnesses etc and being treated as knock for knock I decided it is time to get a dashcam, if only to avoid a similar situation.

I want to hardwire my dashcam Mini 0801 to the fusebox to switch on with ignition as cigarette lighter/aux port is permanently live.

Do I need to buy one of these installation kits >> http://thedashcamstore.com/advanced-dashcam-installation/

The kit above seems to come with some sort of regulator thingy obviously making it a bit more expensive, is it needed?

I was thinking of piggy backing onto Fuse 43 rear wiper/elec windows.

There's a couple of options

Your link isn't working, so I'm going to guess that the item linked has the USB plug at one end, a small box (voltage regulato) and 2 wires out the other end?

If so, that's the option I took. They are available for about a fiver on ebay.

The other option is to wire a 12v socket in under the dash somewhere & use the ciggy lighter plug instead.

The actual wiring in is no different reallly. Piggyback fuse adapter (most of use on here have used the radio - fuse 108 in the Mk2 Focus and C-Max I think, but any ignition live should do) and then to an earth point.

EDIT: 12v to 5v mini USB on ebay for under £3 - have a search and choose one based on the length of wire you need

Hi Sorry about the link, I've sorted it now. Will have a look at ebay

That's exactly the sort of thing. The piggyback fuse holders are also only a few quid - just check the type of fuse holder. I know the Mk2 Focus uses mini-blade fuses.
