Please Not The Pump ;(

Featured Replies

hi guys,

i have a bit of a problem ;(

i have a 2004 xtype 2.0d which has the ford tdci engine when i got it a year ago it hit limp mode i had it plugged into a snap on kit it showed fuel metering valve, reset the fault and it never missed a beat unless drove really hard(reving up to 4000rpm in 2nd up) which i dont tend to do and the problem never arose again.

untill the other day i was pulling out of the house and got 50m it stalled a wouldnt fire up,so put a filter in as it was about 2k from a new one anyway,

it started up and ran great for about 6miles then start loosing power so i took it home and inspected the filter it had dropped so i filled it and it ran great for a bit then lost power again.

i have a 15e obd it showed P0251 - Injector pump fuel metering control (cam/rotor/injector)

i got a mate with the snap on kit again to plug it in again and check

he got

p1211

p2291

was able to check the fuel pressure and that was 70psi where it should be 200 on start up.

i renewed the plastic pipes around engine bay incase it was one of them

so has the fuel metering valve stuck open and wont let it build pressure or am i in need of a new pump??

anything else i could look for now narrow it down?

the brother has the same car so i could rob sensors to try if needed as long as they are easy to remove..

make sure all the filter connections are good an no air leaks are present, was it an oem filter that was fitted as the mondy engine does not like aftermarket items, if it was i would look at doing an injector leak off test, a stuck open injector is a common cause of the P0251 fault code.

thanks for the reply, yeah everything is secure checked 3 or 4times to be sure.

just a spurious one from parts shops.

i will look at doing a leak off test but will this work by just cranking or will it need to run?
