The Ford Dealer May Have To Drill Out My Locking Wheel Nuts They Said

Featured Replies

I recently had a set of winter tyres fitted and within 1 week 1 of them had a puncture. I returned to same outfit that fitted them and they put one of my normal tyres on until they could get a replacement tyre. When I returned they said they couldn't get the locking wheel nut back off because the key was chewed (it was). I don't have the documentation for my car and thus I don't have the code.. and so when I called the local Ford dealer they said they would try and get them off but it is possible that the other garage had used an air-gun(?) to put them on and that this should not be done for the locking wheel nuts as it puts them on too tight and that perhaps even a new key would not work.

If this was the case, they said, then they might not be able to get them off and I would have to pay for the locking wheel nuts that they could not remove to be drilled out. This would cost quite a bit of money. Does anyone have any thoughts on this ? Is it true that the tyre specialists should not have used an air-gun (thingy not quite sure what to call it) to tighten the locking wheel nuts ? If so.. and if the Ford garage cannot remove them should I hold the other garage responsible ?

Lock nuts should be hand tightened only and should be nipped. I had an alloy axle ground off along with the nut years ago it was painful to see....

Ford can remove them, my dealer was great and removed the other 3 nuts for beer money but otherwise they charge about 100 plus
