Diamondbrite, The New (Car) Ppi?

Featured Replies

We turned this down when we bought the Fiesta as it seemed to be a bit expensive, although other car marques also offered their version (autoglym, supagard, GardX) ranging from £320 to £530 for Fiesta sized cars (we bought a Fiesta in the end) when we were car shopping.

The reason I'm comparing it to PPI is that it does seem to be missold, we were told the following about it.

1) Dirt doesn't stick the car as much and in heavy rain the dirt will wash off - What made me write the post, a Fiesta the same colour as mine parked beside me the other day in heavy rain. It has a Diamondbrite sticker on the windscreen and was filthy, mine was cleaner and I and washed it two weeks ago.

2) Helps prevent stone chips - I don't think that's true.

3) £320 spent on Diamondbrite adds £320 on the trade in value - Doubt that either.

4) Lasts for 4 years - I believe it wears off after 5 months, less if you don't use a non-PH neutral shampoo.

So that's the miselling covered, also I am led to believe the kit costs the dealer £50 so the profit is huge. And also have heard that Aston Martin charge £2000 for the same £50 kit.

The other thing we noticed is that they stick it on the first quote without asking for it, which I think is a bit cheeky but FIAT, Suzuki & Renault did exactly the same.

I wouldn't bother with it. A few years ago me and my ex looked at Focii for her, black mk1.5 Ghia. Went to Car Shop, where they make you watch a DVDS about how awesome Scotchguard was, then slapped it on the bill. £300 more for the treatment. I Said no, she said yes. Waste of the money in my opinion

I've still got the diamond brite sticker on mine but I think I 'washed it off' during the summer when I repolished, re glazed and rewaxed the car, my car at the moment is frozen white and utterly filthy until next time I wash it lol. It wasn't me you parked next to was it 😉

I'm currently considering it for my new car, and it's being offered (kit bag included) for £199

I was offered it for £200 or £300 (different levels of valet) when I bought my fiesta in October. I declined as I thought it was a waste of money. When I collected my fiesta, the dealership had left a Diamondbrite kit (worth £20) on my passenger seat.

Mate of mine is REALLY into detailing etc and his Facebook feed is full of before and after pics. What, to me, is shocking is the state of new cars paintwork fresh out of the showroom! Not only 'run of the mill' cars such as Fords etc but even premium motors BMWs Audis etc. Swirl marks and other minor blemishes IMHO shouldn't be visible on a new cars paintwork. I would imagine that they would put any treatment straight over the 'bad' paint and not correct it first.

What I'm trying to round to saying is, I think you would be better off spending probably the same amount of money on a professional detailer to do the job for you. He'll get rid of the swirls etc and cover it with his preferred protective product. Some only need to be topped up once a year, some last even longer(but cost more)
