Help Needed S Max Boot Keeps Unlocking

Featured Replies

Hi i need some help to fix my boot on my 56 plate s max it keeps unlocking while driving i have read all about water getting into the switch so i have replaced with a brand new one ive also purchased a new boot catch but it is still opening any ideas anyone

dunno if this is of any help, couple of months ago mine would not open by the switch, would only open by the remote.

after spending an age stripping everything off i checked the switch and it was fine, checked everything else and was scratching my head and then a horrible thought come into it,SURELY it being a fairly modern car it wouldnt be suffering from the dreaded wires in the gaiters like on the ford galaxy's,turned out it does.

top right hand gaiter i had 4 broken wires, once soldered back on and covered up all was working again as it should,

so i would take a look there and see.

Hi thankyou for your reply theswitch works fine when you press it and the boot opens fine from the key fob aswell will check those wires you mentioned just in case

Definitely the wires.

I had it happen on a mk1 Focus and it eventually burned out the lock solenoids.

It happened every time I touched the brakes as the wires had shorted across.

Top tip- if you do need to patch wires try to put the joints outside of the rubber gaiter.

If you don't then they may snap again due to the inflexibility of soldered joints or crimp connections.
