Radiator Fan Cutting In Most Of The Time

Featured Replies

Hi,

I bought my young son a 2008 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1250cc (not the latest model) last week. Lovely car indeed, well equipped and runs smoothly.

However, I have noticed that a fan, which I assume is the radiator fan, seems to cut in and out very regularly and runs much of the time.

As the weather is rather cold and it does this before the engine even warms-up, I am concerned that there may be a fault. It has been well maintained by one previous owner with just 49000 on the clock and a full dealership history. Anyone got any ideas about these fans?

Thanks

Is the air con switched on all the time?

Could also be a faulty engine temp sensor which makes the ECU switch the fans on constantly as a failsafe if it can't sense a reading.

Also if the heater air direction is set to windscreen then this will turn on the A/C.

Talk to ford think there is a relay that needs replacement

This is something quite obvious aswell but if like me you leave the interior heater temp set to the coldest then the coolant will warm up in the motor quicker and after a short spirited drive the hot coolant needs some help cooling, although mine is never before operating temperature on the dash nor does it do it after a more pre longed run I attribute it to the engine temperature being higher because of the warm up process, I drove about 5 miles quite hard then parked up and left the heater on freezing cold while I checked checked the tyre pressures just before I switched the engine off the fan came on low speed and remained on for about 5 minutes after I removed the key, as long as it's not excessive you should be okay.
