Internal Blower Fault

Featured Replies

Good morning

A couple of days ago my 2002 Focus Flight developed an issue with the internal fans/blowers.

When turning the fan speed up from 0 through to 4 you can hear the blower noise increase each step but on 1 & 2 no air is blown out, on 3 it is minimal and not much better on 4.

I have changed the blower air location to feet, face etc and the same issue persists, minimal air on 3 and not much better on 4.

Would like to fix this myself without taking it to a garage, my knowledge of fixing cars is extremely limited so any heels or advice would be great.

Thank you

Sounds as though the heater resistor has failed ,common symptons your blower only working on the higher settings ,you need to replace the heater resistor. Not sure which side it is on but it is a fiddly job to replace.

when was the pollen filter last checked as a blocked filter will restrict airflow, if you can hear the blower motor working on all fan settings i would say the resistor pack is ok.

If you can hear the blower fan working normally but no air is coming from the vents, check/change pollen filter first as mintalkin says it could be blocked if it hasnt been changed for a few years.

Does the direction change ok from feet to face to windscreen?

My mam's car was haviny same

Problem changed heat resistor and still nothing so i changed the heater dials themselves and its all working fine now when you turn dials see if you can hear anything when doing . Only thing now is mam complains her car is to hot with heating on lol

Thank you very much for your help, got into the car a couple of days ago and miraculously the blowers were back to normal, no issues at all and I hadn't done a thing?!

Guess something was stuck in there?

How do I check that?

Is it the pollen/air filter below the windscreen wipers?

Thanks again.

I would suggest its likely the connections at the back of the heater dials are intermittent. Next time the issue occurs, I would remove the centre console and check the linkeage behind it
