Ford Fiesta Intermitant Fault Loss Of All Dash Lights Power Steering

Featured Replies

My better half has a 64 plate fiesta got it just before Xmas it has a very strange intermitant fault. It has happens only 6 times and this is what happens. Normally less than 30 mph all the clock lights radio and lcd screen all go off and what only can be described as a feeling of a blow out on the passenger side which pulls the car very sharply to the left. This last for around 10 seconds in which time she has to over steer to the right. When the lights all come back on the car then will pull to the right and then the car carries on as normal .

The car has been back to ford and they said it's ok nothing wrong with it but they only took it 10 mins up the road to test it .

Any one have any ideas what it could be ?

Cheers fab

Could be similar to a guy who recently picked up a Black edition, there was a loose connector on the fuse box causing an intermittent fault.

Intermittent faults are a pain to sort out.

From the info you have given, I would say that even though it only lasts for 10 seconds, that is a serious and dangerous fault, especially on icy/wet roads where over steering could cause the car to go into a spin.

On any road, especially a busy road like d/c or m'way with multiple lanes, the consequences of that happening are unthinkable.

You've only had it for a few weeks, take it back it tell them to sort it out and supply you with a car until they do.

It's booked in next week they are goin to have it for 3 days with a bit of hope it will happen again while they have it. I will mention about a loose conection in the fuse box. Would one fuse cause the whole of the clock lights radio display and the lcd screen are they all connected to one fuse

Does anyone know if the power steering is powered electroniclly or by some other way sorry not good with cars lol

Cheers

Fab

The fusebox also has a number of large multi-plugs going to it, so if a connection hasn't been latched properly for example, it can throw up all sorts of otherwise unrelated faults.

The Fiesta in question will have EPAS - electronic power assisted steering. The system no longer uses a hydraulic pump, it's all done electronically. So in theory a poor connection could also upset the steering system.

Hi Fab

The fact that they have booked it in is a start but, as I said in my reply, the way that you've described the problem deems that problem to be a serious and dangerous fault, especially as it veers sharply to the left and I would insist that they take it off your hands, road test it in an attempt to replicate the problem under the conditions that you have given them, until the problem is rectified.
