Space Saver Wheel + Pack

Featured Replies

Hello

Recently bought brand new Ford Fiesta and noticed it didn't come with a space saver wheel. (I expected it would) Instead it came with the foam that's designed to get you home..

Called people's Ford and asked to a quote for one..

So for the Space Saver tire, the Jack, the casing that it all goes in etc was £240

Just for the wheel and tire alone it was £100

Can anyone let me know if they've had/know if any better deals.. Am I worth taking the full pack?

Thanks in Advance..

Just phone breakers I got mines for 65 for all of it

Usually plenty available on EBay for £100-120 (that's everything - wheel, jack kit, foam insert etc).

Here's one

Got mine on Ebay - I went for the full size spare rather than the space saver.

Rpb424 - As you bought a full size spare wheel can I ask if it fitted under the 'false floor' that's in the boot?

Not sure If my boot recess is deep enough so that the full size spare sits flush with the false floor..?

Thanks In advance..

Alistair

Montigoo, I asked for the space saver when I bought mine, but they forgot to add it to the order. When the car arrived, the salesman swapped the goo pack with a wheel pack from another Fiesta. A couple of weeks later, I realised that the wheel provided would not fit the ST due to the larger caliper so I told the salesman, who tried to order the relevant wheel. Seems one wasn't available so he ordered a full steel rim, and had the correct tyre size fitted.

Anyway, to answer your question. The full sized wheel fits nicely into the wheelwell inside the storage insert, and does not intrude into the boot space. the only problem I found was the clamp was not long enough to lock the wheel down, but in over a year and 11k distance, the wheel hasn't moved around to cause any problem.

What was even better for me, was I didn't have to pay for the wheel pack either. He either threw it in as a gesture, or simply forgot to ask me for the cost. :)

Thanks Gary.J that's very helpful

And it won't matter that I don't have the ST model?

The boot outlay will be the same?

Cheers, Montigoo

Should be exactly the same if its a Mk 7 or 7.5 as people seem to use for the 14/15 models

Perfect - thanks

I got a space saver off ebay for 25, unused

Hi, as we are talking about spare wheels, I ordered the spare wheel option when configuring my new Fiesta and I would like to know what size spare wheel should I expect when I also upgraded to 17" alloys?

Also, other members have mentioned that the recess will take a full size spare wheel and jack kit so, I would like to know if it should be a space saver and why Ford don't fit a full size spare?

I gave my sister in law one of the steels from my mk7 car a couple cars back for use as a spare, she's happy with it but my brother has had to build a surround for it as it sits proud of the footwell

Sorry to be pedantic (and possibly a bit thick) but on my 'technical analysis' of my car it says my tyre size for front and rear is 195/50 R16..

All the spares that I'm seeing on Ebay are quoting 175/65 R14..?

So my question is.. Would the later tyre size fit? Wouldn't want to cause any additional problems driving on it if it is the wrong one..

Thanks in Advance

Yes, that's the right size for an emergency spare wheel.

No problem being different, because the higher tyre wall but smaller diameter makes the effective rolling radius about the same. In any case you aren't supposed to use the spare as a matter of routine (50mph limit) partly because of this, but simply until you can get the regular wheel repaired. I have a 175/65 R14 spare with 195/45 R16 alloys.

Superb lads! - thanks for all the advice!

Sorry forgot to add last time, fiesta space saver spares are either 14 or 15", the 15" being much better looking imo than the looks like a steelie 14", just check if you don't believe me on the ford spares website ( www.fordpartsuk.com )

I (used to) have a 15" spare and used it (once) on my last fiesta no problem whatsoever after I hit a particularly deep pothole and smashed the hell out out of my old alloy

Basically, if you have an ST, with the style pack which includes larger front calipers, you need a 15 inch wheel. A 14 inch will not fit over the front calipers, so unless you want to swap a rear for a front then put the spare on the rear, you will need a 15 inch space saver, or full size wheel. Any other Fiesta, should be ok with a 14 inch wheel, even if you have a 17 inch set of alloys.

Perfect.. Got my eyes on a couple on Ebay, waiting for the betting to commence! Ha!

I'm still searching for a spare wheel ( full size 195 60 16 ) and the only thing I can find is one from a citreon, would this be ok ?

If the bolt positions/spacing are the same it should be fine

Much obliged .
