Heated Windscreen Has Stopped Working

Featured Replies

hi peeps,as title have looked under the bonnet in the engine fuse board and the fuses are ok.was working but like a barcode like a lot of them do,

is there anything else i can check or is it a new screen once the stone chip gets bigger.

When it was working, did it time-out a lot?

  • Author

it was working ok last week, barcode.

and i noticed it wasnt working the other day.

iirc it always turned itself off after roughly 5 mins, the rear 1 stays on for an age.

as already said ive checked the fuses under the bonnet.

If you override the timeout, it's easy to burn these things out.

Might be worth checking the two terminals at the bottom underneath the wiper cowl, especially if it's a replacement screen. The earth is behind the courtesy lamp.

no idea whether its ever been changed?

how can you override it?thought it was press a button and after a time it turned itself off.

many thanks for the pointers.

right attempted to have a gander on whats wrong, rechecked all the fuses looked at the earthing around the interior mirror, and even inspected the ribbon on both sides near the wipers.

all looked to be in good condition.

now 1 question is there a relay that powers the front windscreen?

reason i ask is when you press the button for the rear screen you can hear a click which i assume is a relay working.

but when i press the button for the windscreen you hear nothing.

so could it be a dodgy relay somewhere??

regards gregers

relay 6 in engine bay fuse box, probably why you cant hear it. , check its working by checking fuse 34 and 35 for live feed. relay supplys those fuses before going to windscreen

well those fuses are A ok.

When you say they ok, have got multimeter or test light to check for live at fuses when screen on?

  • Author

er no,and there i think lies the problem.

i will have to dig a multi out.

how should i test the circuit?fuses in?out??

many thanks for the help.

If you got multi meter check at windcreen connectors first with engine running , heated screen switch on, if nothing there then at fuses in so you can check for live both sides of fuse, may be difficult depending on fuse type, orpull fuse out and check for live
