Error Code Reader - Worth It?

Featured Replies

I'm not very handy when it comes to cars.

In fact, the last vehicle I tried to fix myself, I ended up ruining it. I can change a tyre, but much beyond that and I'm lost.

However the EML of my 06 Fiesta came on the other day.

I'd just pulled into a petrol station and upon starting the car on the way out, I noticed it on. Had a little wiggle of some of the wires in and around the engine in case any came loose but no go, the light is still on. Drive about 10 miles and the car seems fine so I don't think it's anything mechanical or too drastic.

I was thinking about purchasing one of these, which would tell me what the error is. However I don't see much other use for it. I also don't want to be driving around with a fault on the vehicle.

I was thinking of booking the car into the garage on Tuesday/Wednesday and letting them take a look. We use the garage a fair bit and the guys know us by first name, but if it's just a fault that means nothing important needs to happen, then I could just clear it and be done with it, for £15 - I just don't want to waste money when I know I'm not going to be buying parts and sensors and replacing them myself.

Any advice?

Yes that's fine and so simple to use,i have one like that just for codes.

Plug in,turn car on (don't start ) and press read and write the fault number down and search

online or ask on here.

Absolutely worth it! I wrote a full guide on it, I think its an essential piece of kit for any car owner!

Anyways, you might think you wont do much, but, I think if you reported an error code here, we would do all we could to help talk you through it. Worst case scenario you cant fix it and you take it to be fixed at a garage :)

+ 1 ^^
