Stop/start Technology Stopped Completely!

Featured Replies

Had driven for over 20 miles on City bypass for over 30 minutes, anywhere between driving along in 2nd gear to 70mph. Stopped at the lights at a roundabout, stop/start kicked in. Neutral and hand brake on, A/c off. Green A illuminated on the display. Lights changed to green, pressed the clutch in and nothing. Engine did not crank up/over, had to put hazard lights on (rush hour on a Monday morning). I turned the engine off, turned the key, no lights, pressed clutch, key would not turn, engine did not crank over. This was repeated 6 times or so over 3-4 minute period. Eventually, it started again but it was like the car was immobilised! Only had the car for 3 days at this point. Been back to Ford garage, nothing found on diagnostics. Have no faith in stop/start now, keep switching it off as do not want someone going into the back of me when I do not move! Anyone else had this problem and how it was resolved! Or a one-off?

Clutch switch playing up?

Would explain the fail to start again after a stop/start and for a clean start but not if you've also had problems with the key not turning in the ignition

as above, clutch switch will stop it starting again regardless of stop start status,

also if the switch doesnt detect the pedal going down it probably wont trigger trouble code , it just thinks the pedals not down and dont start as it should under normal conditions.

so keep using it as normal, and if it plays up again, operate the clutch pedal repeatedly to get switch to work hopefully.

then get it back to your ford dealer to fix it describing what you did to get it started, making it clear it needs sorting before you have it back,

hi,,, you need to use the stop start to test it ,,,,

do it in a controled way this time though, take the car for a run to get the temps up etc, then use an empty carpark or a dead end road and pull up and test the stop start repeatdly,,, if its still not working then take it back and explaine to the garage,, mention what has been said in the above posts and tell them to take it out and test it, if they dont then give em the car back cancel the deal and walk away.

They will do 1 of 2 things,, either let the money walk out the door or take you seriousley and find the cause,,,, i bet its the latter.

good luck.
