My 03 Fiesta is driving me mad for the first time since bought brand new.

When in neutral and engine idling, the revs keep going up for a second or two then back down, this only happens randomly.

Can anybody give me any suggestions to stop me going beserk

thanks

I get the same thing with my Ka occasionally. It doesn't happen always. My mechanic says it could be fixed as its an ecu fault but its expensive. Seeing that it's still not that common and so I can live with it I left it as it is.

I leave the car on gear instead of putting it in neutral and when the revs are down I go to neutral and its ok. It's nothing serious mate.

they go up slightly from 1 to 2 on rev counter

Sometimes when your alternator switches on it causes the revs to climb ever so slightly, for example when your fan kicks in it can cause your revs to go up or when you switch on the AC or lights etc. Might be an idea to check if it is just this.

i finally admitted defeat and sought professional advice.

The culprit was a split Air Hose.
